UW Library Acquires Book of Death, Plus Festival Recap and an Art Show
Lots of different news hits for you today! Here’s what’s in today’s newsletter:
UW Library Acquires The Book of Death Haiku Comics
The University of Washington’s Library purchased a copy of The Book of Death Haiku Comics!
One of their staff members stopped by my table at Seattle Zine Fest and after I gave my brief spiel about Book of Death, they said they’d like to purchase a copy for the UW’s collection (I’m not sure which library among the UW Libraries).
So that’s fun! Now a major institution has purchased two of my three comics for their collection at their own initiative (the other being Phased at the Victoria and Albert Museum’s National Art Library).
Summer Festival Recap
Speaking of Seattle Zine Fest (SZF), I just wrapped PhinneyWood Comic Book Show (PWCBS) on Saturday, so I’m now done with my comic fests for the summer.
SZF went exceedingly well. Book of Death basically flew off the shelf, leading to by far my most book sales at any fest I’ve tabled at thus far. After running out of Book of Death halfway through Short Run last year, I made sure to bring enough inventory to SZF.
PWCBS went not bad. We’ve had unhealthily smoky weather here in Seattle recently with the winds blowing smoke down from Canada and west from Spokane, where fires are raging. Yesterday was moderate, though, and today was just within the “good” side of the “moderate” threshold in north Seattle, so fortunately we had the windows open for a slight cool breeze on a warm day. But I think the recent string of smoky days led people to stay home since the foot traffic was significantly lower than last year’s. At the end of the day, I still did slightly better than last year thanks to Book of Death, though.
Many thanks to everyone who came out and bought my books and great company with my fellow tablers!
Blood of My Blood Sold Out!
After SZF and PWCBS, I’ve now sold out of Blood of My Blood! Amazingly, I both sold my last copy of BoMB at PWCBS and the owner of Crow’s Nest Comics, where I had a few copies available on consignment, who happened to be tabling at PWCBS as well, stopped by to tell me that the last copy of BoMB at her store had just sold, too. It’s nice to have a print run sell out.
Putting On a Cafe Art Show
In other news from my art side (sign up here for news if you’re interested!), I’m putting on a solo exhibition of the “Blue Period” paintings I completed last year (which were all shared here on Zeno’s Arrow, too, before I set up my art website).
Seattle folks, please stop by the opening reception THIS FRIDAY, August 14 if you’re interested!
