A Great Quote
A friend shared a fantastic quote with me earlier this week:
Not that I was specifically itching to get away to focus on art, but I do vibe with the spirit of the quote.
By the way, who’s this “Jobs” guy? I’m sure he was kind to everyone around him and that everyone attributed his success to how he built people around him up and were inspired to emulate his pro-social behavior.
Anyway, I encourage everyone to try to see the grooves that have been etched in your own minds, by the people you’ve interacted with, by institutions and society, by the stories you’ve taken in, by life. What do you think about the grooves you’ve identified?
Election Update
The people have spoken! And it’s a tie between the gumshoes and the force wielders… Ok, I’m going to start with Sherlock and Watson since they were leading at first, and then get to Palpatine and Yoda if I’m able to before the clock strikes 2/14.
Graphic Short Story
Alright, I feel pretty good about the level of simplification and stylization on my people characters. Maybe could simplify and stylize a bit more (it’s something I’m working on getting better at), but I’ll let that develop in the execution. Fortunately, since it’s just me working on this, I don’t need to have everything nailed down right now to have a unified reference for a bunch of artists to work from.
And hooboy, having a big challenge with this other character design. Been a lot of iterating and exploring. It’s of a being beyond our ken, so…needs to look—different. But I’m getting somewhere! I think I need to just take it into more finished design work in digital at this point since it’s hard to test my ideas for it in just graphite.
Next, I’m going to start working digitally to create and refine what the characters will look like in the actual graphic short story.

And here’s some sketching from life I did this past week:
